Why I decieded to buy my first piece of real estate in my 20's.

Why I decieded to buy my first piece of real estate in my 20's.

The funny part? Renting was cheaper.

On paper, continuing to rent made sense. I had flexibility, fewer maintenance responsibilities, and a lower monthly payment. If something broke, I could call someone else to fix it.

But eventually, I had to ask myself:
“What am I actually building by continuing to rent?”

For me, the answer was simple: I wanted to invest in myself.
I knew where I wanted to be. I knew the neighborhood I wanted to call home. And, most importantly, I could see myself living there long-term.

So I stopped looking at the purchase purely as a monthly payment and started looking at it as a long-term lifestyle and wealth-building investment.

Real estate isn’t a short-term game for me. I believe it can be one of the greatest long-term wealth-building tools available, but only when the purchase makes sense for the person buying it. That doesn’t mean buying is always better than renting.

If you’re unsure where you’ll be living in the next couple of years, want maximum flexibility, or aren’t financially prepared for the additional costs of ownership, renting may absolutely be the better decision.

But if you know where you want to be, have the financial ability to handle the costs of ownership, and plan on staying for the long haul, buying can be a completely different conversation.

There are also potential financial benefits to ownership, including building equity and certain tax deductions, depending on your individual situation.
For me, the biggest factor wasn’t trying to time the market.

It was knowing where I wanted to be and being ready to make the leap.
With rates still relatively stubborn and buyers having more negotiating power in certain situations, opportunities can present themselves. I was fortunate enough to purchase my first place and walk into it with equity already there.

That’s a pretty incredible feeling.

My biggest takeaway: Don’t buy simply because someone tells you that you “should own instead of rent.”

Buy when the numbers, your finances, your lifestyle, and your long-term plans all make sense.

For me, that time was now. If you're looking to buy your first home or investment property, call or text anytime 602-810-3698.
